Welcome

I am David Goedicke, a researcher specializing in human-technology interaction, exploring how to design systems that preserve human agency in highly automated, AI-driven environments. Starting by observing existing interaction patterns, I explored system designs that ensure safe operation and preserve the user’s agency as Automation and AI increase.

Much of my earlier work used simulation and rapid prototyping to study complex interactions with automated systems. This developed into a broader interest in reusable research software that makes research and its tools easier to understand, extend, compare, and trust.

More recently, I have expanded my perspective on how systems should be designed to support meaningful human control, from physical interfaces for automated machines to software infrastructure that helps domain experts build advanced, trustworthy technical systems without losing focus on their own expertise.

Currently, I explore these questions as a UX Designer at Egosoft in Germany.

My work is grounded in the idea that we must spend as much effort designing our relationship with technology as we do designing the technology itself.

My academic background includes a postdoc at the University of Duisburg-Essen, a Ph.D. in Information Science from Cornell Tech, and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. from the University of Twente.
